New School Building
The Ramakrishna Tamil School is named after the great sage “Bhagawan Ramakrishna Prahmasa”. The school began as a feeder school for the children of the Ramakrishna Ashrama founded in 1938. In the year 1944 the school came into existence through the efforts of a Brahmachari K. Sivanesan. Then, the school was only a thatched hut with an enrolment of 15 pupils.
In 1946, the High Commissioner’s wife, Lady Gent opened the school officially. Two years later, the school obtained government aid. The school consistently excelled in many fields. In the 1950’s, the school had morning and afternoon sessions with an enrolment of 450 pupils. The present building was constructed in 1957 by the Ramakrishna Ashrama.
The enrolment of the school decreased as parents enrolled their children in national schools due to the growing importance of the National Language. The Ramakrishna Kindergarten was started and run by the Ramakrishna Ashrama from 1989 onwards and these efforts of the Ramakrishna Ashrama has helped in the increase of the pupils at the Ramakrishna Tamil School . The Education Department had upgraded the school to an “A” – graded school in 2002.
The present enrolment of the school is 296 students and the consistent increase of the student population has resulted in the lack of classrooms. The Ramakrishna Ashrama has offered the top floor of its Main Hall and the resource centre to be used as classrooms. Yet, with the lack of basic needs and classrooms, the school faces difficulties and the school desperately needs a new building to ensure that pupils in the coming years can have a better and conductive learning environment.
We take this opportunity to thank all those who have put forth their efforts for a new building. We kindly request for your constant assistance and strong support for the New School Building Project.
If you are interested, kindly fill up the attached form, or call us if you need futher details about our New School Building for SJK(T) Ramakrishna.
